ยา semaglutide รูปแบบรับประทานเป็นยารักษาโรคเบาหวานชนิดที่ 2 โดยเป็นยาตัวแรกในกลุ่ม glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RAs) ที่ได้รับการพัฒนาเป็นยารูปแบบรับประทาน ซึ่งเดิมยากลุ่มนี้มีการบริหารยาในรูปแบบฉีดเท่านั้น

 

จากการทบทวนวรรณกรรมอย่างเป็นระบบ (systematic review) และการวิเคราะห์อภิมานเครือข่าย (network meta-analysis) ของการศึกษากลุ่มประชากรผู้ป่วยที่เป็น type 2 diabetes ซึ่งได้รับการรักษาด้วย basal insulin แต่ยังไม่สามารถควบคุมระดับนํ้าตาลได้ตามเป้าหมาย โดยเปรียบเทียบระหว่างยา semaglutide 14 mg รูปแบบรับประทานกับยาในกลุ่ม GLP-1 RAs ตัวอื่นพบว่า ผลในการลดระดับ HbA1c เทียบได้กับยา GLP-1 RAs ตัวอื่น อีกทั้งมีความทนต่อยาที่ใกล้เคียงกัน จึงเป็นทางเลือกให้ผู้ป่วยที่ไม่ต้องการฉีดยาหรือไม่สะดวกใช้ยาฉีดสามารถเข้าถึงยาในกลุ่ม GLP-1 RAs ได้

 

นอกจากนี้ บทความนี้ยังนำเสนอข้อควรพิจารณาในการใช้ยาและข้อห้ามใช้ยาในผู้ป่วยที่มี health condition แตกต่างกันไป คำแนะนำในการรับประทานยาและการปฏิบัติตนของผู้ป่วย รวมถึงข้อควรระวังในการใช้ยา เพื่อให้เกิดประสิทธิภาพสูงสุดในการรักษาแก่ผู้ป่วย
