Overview
In the Introduction
section, it is stated that cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk assessment is
essential for primary prevention.
Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death
globally and is a major cause of morbidity worldwide. It is also the leading
cause of death in different regions and countries in the world. Other details
on its prevalence are found in the Epidemiology
section.
The Pathophysiology
section states that CVD is the result of the complex interplay of various
factors such as genetics, immunologic phenomena, dyslipidemia, and endothelial
dysfunction. While in the Risk Factors
section, details on risk stratification, risk factors, and risk factor
equivalents are discussed.

History and Physical Examination
In the History and Physical Examination sections, details on CVD risk assessment, primarily signs and symptoms of target organ damage (TOD) and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) are discussed.
Diagnosis
As discussed in the Diagnosis
and Diagnostic Criteria section, coronary risk charts are used
to determine overall cardiovascular disease risk.
The Laboratory Tests and
Ancillaries and Imaging sections
enumerate the tests that can be performed in assessing and evaluating a patient
suffering from cardiovascular disease.
Management
The Evaluation
section describes the different cardiovascular disease risk categories. While
the Principles of Therapy
details the selection of patients for early intervention and the management of
risk factors.
The different drugs that can be used in cardiovascular
disease prevention are enumerated and discussed in the Pharmacological Therapy section.
Details on patient education and lifestyle modification for cardiovascular
disease are discussed in the Nonpharmacological
section. Lastly, management of other risk factors is discussed in the Prevention section.
