Real-World Evidence in Action: Integrating data into the management of MDR Gram-negative infections
A Pfizer-sponsored symposium held during ESCMID 2025 in Vienna, Austria explored the expanding role of real-world evidence (RWE) in managing multidrug-resistant (MDR) Gram-negative bacterial infections. The session featured three distinguished experts, Professor David van Duin from the University of North Carolina, US; Dr Paula Ramirez, an intensive care specialist at La Fe University and Polytechnic Hospital, Spain; and Professor David Paterson from the National University of Singapore, who is also the Director of ADVANCE-ID, a regional platform for infectious disease research. Together, they discussed how RWE complements traditional clinical trials, guides empirical treatment strategies, and supports the use of newer antibiotics such as ceftazidime-avibactam.
