The following diseases should be ruled out in the diagnosis of hepatitis C:

  • Hepatitis A, B, D, E: Specific serologic testing identifies the different types of viral hepatitis
  • Viral diseases: Yellow fever, Epstein-Barr virus, cytomegalovirus, HIV, rubella, rubeola, coxsackie B, adenovirus, herpes simplex, herpes zoster
  • Non-viral diseases: Leptospirosis, toxoplasmosis, alcoholic hepatitis, autoimmune hepatitis, drug-induced hepatitis/liver injury, toxic hepatitis, hepatocellular carcinoma, Wilson disease, cholangitis
