Tổng quan

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is the consolidation of autistic disorder, Asperger’s disorder, and pervasive developmental disorder, representing a single continuum of mild to severe deficits in social communication
and restrictive repetitive behaviors/interests.
ASD is a neurodevelopmental disorder that begins in childhood that involves impaired social interaction, impaired communication and lack of developmentally appropriate behavior, interests or activities.
Diagnosis should rely on the holistic profile of the child including developmental, medical and social history, physical examination, consideration of differential diagnoses and coexisting conditions, cognitive, sensory, academic and adaptive behavior profiles, strengths, skills and needs to facilitate management plans together with autism-specific diagnostic instruments.
The goals of therapy are to minimize disruptive/disturbing symptoms, facilitate access to intervention, maximize benefits of nonmedical intervention, maximize functional independence, and to imrove the patient's and family's quality of life.
