It must be noted that treatment regimen is modified if symptoms are persistent several days after treatment initiation. Furthermore, periodic monitoring of liver function should be considered in patients given prolonged azole therapy (>21 days), especially those with hepatic comorbidities. Lastly, for patients with persistent esophageal candidiasis, repeat endoscopy should be performed to obtain culture and sensitivity specimens to evaluate for other etiologic entities.
