Melanoma is a form of skin cancer that arises from melanocytic cells which make the pigment melanin that colors the skin.
Melanoma may also occur in mucosal surfaces or other sites where neural crest cells migrate eg oral, genital and rectal mucosa, eyes and nail beds.
Suspicious lesions are assessed by examining the entire skin surface including nevi.
The management of melanoma depends on disease stage, pathologic/histologic result, lymph node status and presence of genetic mutations.
For further information regarding the management of Infective Melanoma, please refer to Disease Algorithm for the Treatment Guideline.
