A 3-day heart health CSR event attracted a record number of 827 participants screened via electrocardiogram (ECG) over a total of 24 hours. The event conducted from 25 to 27 April highlights the importance of having more accessible screening options beyond the healthcare setting.

The Pulse of Life: The Ultimate Heart Health Experience, organised by the Sunway Medical Centre Velocity (SMCV) at the Sunway Velocity Mall’s main atrium, is the first-of-its-kind initiative to create awareness of cardiovascular risks among the public with a focus on early detection and prevention. Consultant cardiologist and internal medicine physician Datuk Dr Foo Yoke Loong noted the importance of early screening in controlling cardiovascular disease (CVD): “This public ECG screening was about more than just breaking records; it was about providing our fellow Malaysians an opportunity to gain life-saving insights into their cardiovascular health. For many, it was their first step towards recognising early signs and understanding any potential risks.

“We were also able to provide medical guidance and advise on appropriate follow up actions. We hope that efforts like these will continue to raise awareness around the importance of earlier interventions and ultimately, better outcomes in the fight against cardiovascular disease,” said Foo. The ECG screening was the highlight of the initiative, aimed to empower individuals aged 18 years and above to take charge of their heart health. Participants also received complimentary ECG assessments supported by SMCV’s consultant cardiologists and internal medicine physicians.

“We are honoured to be recognised by the Malaysia Book of Records for this milestone, but what truly inspires us is, to see how the community has embraced the opportunity to take a proactive role in managing their heart health,” said SCMV’s CEO Susan Cheow.

“Seeing many participate in this record-setting screening, alongside engaging initiatives and medical consultations, is a powerful testament that the public is ready to take charge of their heart health. As a healthcare institution, we remain committed to creating more touchpoints like this to raise awareness and support better long-term health outcomes,” she added.

The event also introduced another first-in-Malaysia initiative, the Immersive Visual Journey, featuring an engaging and visually captivating installation that converted real-time heartbeats into an artistic light display—combining art and awareness on heart rate as visitors witnessed the lights shift based on low, normal, and high heart rate. Other features included the Heart Health Educational Gallery and Giant Heart Exhibit to enable the visitors learn about the human heart anatomy and functions in an engaging and visually impactful way, complimentary fitness workshops and health screenings for blood pressure, glucose, and cholesterol, along with vaccination and medication counselling and expert advice from on-site nurses and pharmacists.
