Cardiovascular outcome trials (CVOTs) have revolutionised the understanding of weight loss interventions in cardiology, transforming them from aesthetic considerations into evidence-based therapeutic strategies. Initially designed to assess cardiovascular safety of anti-diabetic medications, CVOTs have unexpectedly demonstrated that significant weight reduction can yield profound cardiovascular benefits. In this fifth of a series of articles, Datuk Dr Rosli Mohd Ali calls on cardiologists to closely look at CVOTs that have established weight management as an essential component of comprehensive cardiac care, fundamentally reshaping therapeutic approaches to cardiometabolic disease.
