Chronic coronary syndrome, also called stable coronary artery disease (CAD), stable ischemic heart disease (SIHD), chronic stable angina or stable angina pectoris.
It is a clinical syndrome characterized by squeezing, heaviness or pressure discomfort in the chest, neck, jaw, shoulder, back, or arms which is usually precipitated by exertion and/or emotional stress and relieved by rest and/or Nitroglycerin.
A good history and clinical examination is the key first step in the evaluation of a patient with chest pain and/or dyspnea.
The goals of therapy include relief of anginal symptoms and reduction of ischemia, improvement of chest pain-free exertion capacity, reduction of atherosclerosis progression, prevention of subsequent acute myocardial infarction (AMI), unstable angina and cardiac death, and improvement of quality of life and life expectancy.
For further information regarding the management of Chronic Coronary Syndromes, please refer to Disease Algorithm for the Treatment Guideline.
