Referral to a pediatric urologist may be done for patients with evidence of renal damage, high risk for recurrent infection, imaging abnormalities (eg obstruction, renal scarring), or abnormal renal function despite treatment. Consult an infectious disease specialist for patients with urinary tract infection with uncommon or multidrug-resistant organisms.
